Visit from Geoff Page

Patrick Lequette and Francis Meyer from the “Gilbert de Venables” Cultural Center received an impromptu visit from Mr. and Mrs. Geoff PAGE on June 12, 2024. They live in the town of Middlewich in Cheshire with which the village of Venables has cultural links. Geoff is President of the Royal British Legion Association [1] .

In a duty of remembrance for two months Geoff and his wife have been visiting the cemeteries where the soldiers of Middlewich are buried. We have learned that 150 soldiers from the town of Middlewich are now buried in all European military cemeteries.

Together we toured the village's heritage and commented on the relationship with Middlewich. We discussed the duty of memory that we maintain every year in our two respective countries and particularly for the five British soldiers who rest in the military square of the village cemetery. To mark the 80th anniversary of D'Day the Middlewich Association has organized an exhibition to honor the service and sacrifice of the D-Day generation on the site of the British Normandy Memorial.
